Plastic Surgery After Weight Loss?
Updated: Nov 6, 2020
Many Americans struggle with their weight and they fight to lose the pounds through exercise, diet, and at times surgery. No matter how the weight is lost, congratulation is in order for anyone who has successfully lost a lot of weight.
How a patient’s body recovers from weight loss depends on their age, genetics, sun exposure, and how evenly the weight loss was distributed. For people over 40, it is hard to avoid sagging skin after major weight loss. For individuals who lost the majority of weight in one section of the body, for example the abdomen, versus the weight loss being evenly distributed over the body, one may have more slacking effect in that specific area. The loose skin and heavy folds can be a constant reminder of their former self and body contouring, is one of the most common procedures to improve the body’s appearance to help the patient embrace their new trimmer shape.
Body contouring includes a variation of several procedures to help regain a trimmer and firmer silhouette. These include a tummy tuck, breast lift, and buttock augmentation. A tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty, provides a patient with a firmer and flatter abdomen by removing excess skin below the belly button, pulling down the redundant skin above the belly button, and the tightening of the abdominal muscles to reconstruct the abdominal wall.
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, raises the breasts creating a more youthful contour by removing excess skin and tightening the skin creating a perkier contour with firmer breasts. It also reposition the nipple for a more natural look. Butt augmentation, uses a person’s own fat to naturally augment and shape the buttocks. Liposuction is performed to remove fat from other areas of the body (often the stomach, hips, and thighs), then transfers that fat to the buttocks. Additional liposuction can be done around the butt to improve the appearance of lift and contour.
It is important that a patient’s weight has stabilized for nearly a year before undergoing surgery to ensure the best result. This time allows for the skin to shrink as much as possible and a patient to optimized and stabilized their nutrition. If the procedure is done before one reaches their goal weight, one may end up with more sagging skin and require more surgery down the road.
The cost of body contouring surgery is dependent on the anatomy of the patient, number of procedures one wants to be performed, surgical technique, and operating room time. During your personal consultation you will be given a specific fee quote.
We offer several financing options that offer affordable monthly payments and competitive interest rates.
