5 Hot Trends in Plastic Surgery
Updated: Aug 2, 2021
New data shows there were nearly a quarter-million more cosmetic procedures performed in 2018 than the previous year. According to the ASPS annual plastic surgery statistics report, there were more than 17.7 million surgical and minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2018, a number that has risen steadily over the past five years.
The statistics also reveal a rise in new trends in body-shaping procedures, with a spike in non-invasive fat reduction, as well as surgeries such as breast augmentations and liposuction.
Top 5 Cosmetic Surgical Performed in last 5 years
Of the more than 1.8 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed in the last 5 years, the top 5 were:
Breast augmentation (313,735 procedures, up 4 percent from 2017)
Liposuction (258,558 procedures, up 5 percent from 2017)
Tummy tuck (130,081 procedures, about the same as 2017)
1. Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation, also known as a boob job, augmentation mammaplasty, or breast enhancement surgery, increases or restores breast size using silicone gel implants, saline implants or in some cases, fat transfer. One of the most popular and frequently performed aesthetic surgery procedures, breast augmentation has a long and successful track record in satisfying women who wish to enhance, regain or restore balance to their figures.
Breast augmentation can; increase fullness and projection of your breasts, improve the balance of your figure making it better proportioned, restore the size and shape of your breasts that have been affected as a result of pregnancy, weight loss, or aging, restore symmetry if one of your breasts is smaller than the other, and enhance your self-image and self-confidence.
2 . Liposuction Surgery
Remove Fat Cells & Improve Body Shape
Liposuction, sometimes referred to as “Lipo” by patients, is one of the most common aesthetic surgical procedures. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body. Also known as lipoplasty, or suction assisted lipectomy, this procedure is used to contour and shape specific areas.
A healthy diet and exercise program may still leave stubborn fat deposits in certain areas. These deposits may be genetic and very difficult to remove with diet and exercise. Liposuction is great in dealing with these hard-to-change areas. What distinguishes Dr. Azad from other surgeons is not only does he remove the fat, he sculpts the body into the slimmer body that you desire.
Liposuction is not a remedy for obesity and should not be looked to as a replacement for a healthy diet and exercise program. Neither should it be considered a weight loss surgery. Liposuction can be performed alone or along with other plastic surgery procedures, such as a face lift, breast reduction, tummy tuck. Liposuction techniques may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the; thighs, hips and buttocks, abdomen and waist, upper arms, back, inner knee, chest area, cheeks, chin and neck, calves and ankles.
3. Brazilian Butt Lift
The Brazilian Butt Augmentation (Brazilian Butt Lift), or gluteal augmentation surgery, is a type of butt augmentation procedure that uses a person’s own fat to naturally augment and shape the buttocks.
Liposuction is performed to remove fat from other areas of the body (often the stomach, back, and flanks), then transfer that fat to the buttocks. Additional liposuction can be done around the butt to improve the appearance of lift and contour.
The Brazilian Butt Augmentation results in more perky, youthful buttocks and a more sensual body profile. Candidates for the procedure include both women and men who have flat buttocks. 4. Tummy Tuck
Smoother & Firmer Abdominal Profile Tummy Tuck Surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose or sagging tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging due to aging, heredity, prior surgery, and fluctuations in weight. A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program.
5. Breast Reduction
Reduce the size of the Breasts
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is performed to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts by removing excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin.
One should consider a breast reduction if your breasts are too large for your body frame and create neck, back, or shoulder pain; if one breast is much larger than the other; if you are unhappy and self-conscious about the large appearance of your breasts. Often women who consider breast reduction also consider a breast lift, liposuction, and tummy tuck.
