What are Gummy Bear Implants?

Gummy bear breast implants are one of the options available for breast augmentation. They’re known to retain their shape better than other types of breast implants made from saline and silicone.

Before and After Photos

You may be a good candidate for this surgery if you want more volume in your breasts without the extreme shape of other implants. This procedure isn’t approved for women who are pregnant.

“Gummy bear” is the non-scientific term for highly cohesive silicone gel implants. They hold their shape even when the implant shell is broken. The gel inside is thick, rather than liquid. Since they hold their form, gummy bear implants are made to a shape, either round or teardrop-shaped (tapered at the top and with more of a projection at the bottom). They add volume to the breasts while leaving them naturally soft to the touch.

When compared to other silicone and saline implants, the Gummy Bear maintains its shape more faithfully over time. The implants resist gravity, aging and anatomical flaws. This not only offers women a more natural-looking outcome- they are also safer- as the implant is far less likely to rupture. Folds, ripples and creases are rare within the Gummy Bear, making tears and leakage extremely unlikely.

There are various benefits of this type of implant. They look and feel more natural. When properly done, they can still provide women with plenty of cleavage. Over time, traditional implants can be impacted by the constant pressure from your body’s tissues. This is not the case with Gummy Bear Implants.

Advantages of “Gummy Bear” Breast Implants

Women who have cohesive gel implants generally do not have to worry about the implant leaking inside their body. Typically when breast implants leak, it is because the shell broke which allowed the liquid to leak out. This is not usually a concern with cohesive gel implants for two reasons, the first one is that normal shells generally break along fold lines and cohesive gel implants most likely will not develop fold lines. The second reason is that if the situation arises that the cohesive gel implant shell does break, it would not leak because the filling is mostly solid instead of liquid, meaning that the filling most likely wouldn’t go anywhere. You will not need to routinely change these implants every 10 years as they can last for long time.

It is possible that cohesive gel implants will leave the woman with less firm scar tissue than other implants would. This has been the case in many European procedures, however the reason is still unknown. Some people speculate that the reason is because there is less diffusion of silicone, and other people think it is because the firmness of the implant does not allow the body to contract around the implant. Whatever the reason, less firm scar tissue is definitely a plus and hopefully over time we will know the true reason for this advantage.
