What To Expect During Liposuction Recovery

Updated: Jul 4, 2021

If you are thinking about having liposuction in Orlando, you may have a few questions regarding the length of time needed for recovery. The following factors can influence the recovery process: liposuction procedural technique, the number and location of treated areas, the amount of fat removed, and the type of anesthesia used.

Every patient has a different experience because of their individual pain tolerance and recovery response. But we still provide an average timeline and expectation guideline to all of our patients having liposuction in Orlando.

Here is what you should expect:

  • 2-3 Days Post-op Liposuction Surgery:

Patients will typically experience moderate pain and discomfort, managed with pain medications. Dr. Azad usually recommends that his patients wear compression garments which will limit their mobility but aid in the healing process. You will also be advised to limit your activity.

  • 1-2 Weeks Post-op Liposuction Surgery:

It is possible that you will still experience some pain and discomfort after having liposuction in Orlando, but it does become less over time. Most of our patients can return to work as long as they are not required to do any strenuous activity. Dr. Azad will still want you to wear your compression garments, attend your post-op checkups, and monitor your incisions and fluid drainage.

  • 2-5 Weeks Post-op Liposuction Surgery:

A majority of patients say that their pain has subsided and that they can see results. There may still be some swelling and bruising in the treated areas, however, all incisions should be fully healed. After the 3rd week, most patients are approved to begin light to moderate exercise. However, high-impact exercises should continue to be avoided.

  • 6 Weeks Post-op Liposuction Surgery:

Pretty much all post-liposuction swelling and bruising should be resolved, which means you will be able to see the results. Dr. Azad will advise you that your compression garments are no longer needed and that you are okay to resume all forms of physical activities.

To make sure that you have a successful healing process after having liposuction in Orlando, we recommend the following things:

  • Always follow all post-liposuction instructions

  • Rest, rest, and more rest

  • Stay hydrated

  • Eat healthy

  • Light exercise once approved by Dr. Azad

  • Lymphatic massage

  • Avoid blood thinning drugs

  • Follow Dr. Azad’s instructions regarding compression garments

  • Avoid water sports and swimming pools
