Smoother & Firmer Abdominal Profile
Tummy Tuck Surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose or sagging tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging due to aging, heredity, prior surgery, and fluctuations in weight. A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program.

FAQs about Tummy Tuck Surgery
What types of Tummy Tuck procedures are there?
Tummy tuck, also called a full Abdominoplasty, involves removal of the redundant skin below the belly button, pulling down the redundant skin above the belly button, and the tightening of the abdominal muscles to reconstruct the abdominal wall. This is necessary in abdominal contouring for most patients whose muscles have separated after pregnancy and/or moderate to severe weight gain. Another type of Abdominalplasty is referred to the mini Abdominoplasty. This procedure only removes redundant skin from below the belly button and tightening of the lower abdominal muscle.
What differs a Tummy Tuck surgery from Liposuction?
Liposuction is a great body contouring procedure for a patient with good skin tone and minimal stretch marks. If a patient has redundant skin, separation of abdominal muscles, moderate to severe stretch marks, a Tummy Tuck will produce a better result, for the abdominal wall will be reconstructed and loose skin will be removed. Liposuction of the flanks is often done in combination with a tummy tuck to offer an aesthetically pleasing silhouette.
What kind of scar will I have as a result of the Tummy Tuck procedure?
The scar from a tummy tuck depends greatly on the patient and the extent of the procedure. The scar will be a horizontal incision from hip to hip but it will be placed low on the abdomen so it will be hidden by even the skimpiest of bikinis.
How long until I see the results from a Tummy Tuck procedure?
The length of time to see the results from a tummy tuck depends on the extent of the procedure and how well a patient heals, but the excess skin will be gone immediately. The patient will have swelling for several weeks after the procedure, but compression garments can help minimize the swelling and cut down the healing time. Majority of patients will see results after 3-6 months, though ultimate results will be evident 6-9 months after the surgery, when the swelling has completely subsided.
What is the expected recovery time for Tummy Tuck?
Recovery time is highly dependent on the patient and the extent of the tummy tuck surgery. Before leaving the center, you will be given specific instructions on how to care for your incisions, medications to use, and when to follow-up with Dr. Azad. Most patients should be able to return to work a 5-7 days after the surgery and resume most activities after 5-7 weeks. A week after the surgery, a patient may start resume light exercise, but heavy lifting of weight more than 15lbs, sit-ups, and crunches, should not resume until 8 weeks after the surgery.
