Breast Augmentation Surgery
Increase or Restore Breast Size
Breast augmentation, also known as boob job, augmentation mammaplasty, or breast enhancement surgery, increases or restores breast size using silicone gel implants, saline implants or in some cases, fat transfer. One of the most popular and frequently performed aesthetic surgery procedures, breast augmentation has a long and successful track record in satisfying women who wish to enhance, regain or restore balance to their figures.
Breast augmentation can; increase fullness and projection of your breasts, improve the balance of your figure making it better proportioned, restore the size and shape of your breasts that have been effected as a result of pregnancy, weight loss or aging, restore symmetry if one of your breasts is smaller than the other, and enhance your self-image and self-confidence.
Breast augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a breast-lift (also known as a mastopexy), can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Dr. Azad will assist you in making this decision. If you have questions about breast enhancement, or would like to request a free consultation at Dr. Azad’s office in Orlando please fill out the form below.
FAQs About Breast Augmentation Surgery
How do I know what size breast implant to choose for my breast augmentation (boob job)?
Choosing your new breast size is an important decision and can be stressful, but many women find it to be the most exciting part of preparing for breast augmentation. The dimensional approach makes the most sense – choosing implants based upon your natural breast width as well as the tightness of your tissues. Once measurements are taken, you will have a range of volumes based on the amount of projection you want that will safely fit your measurements. You will be able to see samples of actual implants to size with to get an idea of what to expect during your breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Azad.
For breast augmentation (boob surgery), what is the difference between silicone and saline implants?
For breast augmentation, there are two types of implants: silicone and saline. With both types, the outer shell is made of silicone, but the interior differs in material and consistency. For saline, the implants are inserted empty, and then once in place, they are filled with sterile salt water. Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel, a thick and sticky fluid that imitates the feel of human fat. Most women who choose a silicone breast augmentation say the silicone implants feel and look like natural breast tissue.
What are the different types of incisions made in a breast augmentation surgery (boob surgery)?
The two most common incisions for breast augmentation are the periareola incision and an inframmary incision. The periareola incision is made around the outline of the areola of the breast, this allows for greatest control over position of the implant, and minimizes the incision’s visibility. Disadvantages of this incision are that some patients lose nipple sensation, or have a higher sensation. The other most common incision is an inframmary incision, which is a 4-5 cm incision along the crease or fold of the breast. This incision type will bypass going to your nipple and breast tissue, and allows for direct access to the muscle, but may leave a scar along the lower portion of the breast that can easily be hidden under a bra or swimsuit.
When having a breast augmentation (boob job), what is the difference in having the implant placed above or below the muscle?
During a breast augmentation, an implant place above the muscle is positioned between the chest muscle and the breast tissue itself, also called a subglandular placement. A submuscular placement is where the implant is positioned under the chest muscles. Submuscular placement will provide more coverage, less rippling and palpability of the implants, less chance of getting capsular contracture, and better mammogram detection. For the majority of patients, the under the muscle placement is preferred, however there are few certain situations over the muscle placement will be the better choice, and Dr. Azad will go over those situations during a breast augmentation consultation.
What is the expected recovery time for a breast augmentation surgery?
Recovery time is highly dependent on the patient and how their body responds to breast augmentation surgery. Before leaving the center, you will be given specific instructions on how to care for your breasts, medications to use, and when to follow-up with Dr. Azad. You will wear a support bra 24 hours a day for the first week or two and will need to clean and apply ointment to the incision sites as directed. The initial recovery period after a breast augmentation is 24 to 48 hours, with additional reduced activity period for a few weeks. Soreness and swelling can be expected for a few weeks. Exercise and normal activity can resume typically a month after your breast augmentation surgery.
Does breast augmentation (boob job) correct dropping breasts?
